Empty Chairs
(As a national workforce shortage strikes child welfare, CWLA responds)

Here is an article I found on the Child Welfare League of America website.  It deals with the staffing shortage that many facilities face.  It gives, I believe, some very good ideas on recruiting and retaining good workers.  I believe it is good reading for administrators looking to recruit and retain competent workers and also good reading for Child Care Workers for knowing what to look for in a good program.

Houseparent Salaries

I have had several people ask me about the salaries of houseparents and other residential childcare workers.  Until now, the only information I have known about was my informal survey.  I have recently discovered that The Child Welfare League of America publishes a quarterly newsletter.  In the Spring 2003 edition, they have a summary of a scientific survey they did of member agencies.  They also will provide the complete results of the survey for a small fee.  ADDITIONALLY,  It would be a good idea to sign up for their newsletter, it has a great deal of information about the residential childcare field.
