Training Resources
I have finally been made aware of an online training course for residential
childcare workers. It is written by a director of a treatment program in
Tennessee. The course is call "Behavior
Management for Childcare Workers"
by Don Campbell. He says his facility will give credit for 10 hours
training, your facility may also but you will need to check with them first if
want to take it for training credit. The cost for the course is $30, or
$48 if you need a certificate. I have viewed the first two lessons.
They are short and to the point, yet provide some good information. The
tests are more than just multiple choice questions and you will have to answer
some essay questions. If you are in need of training hours this may be a
fairly inexpensive way to get them. Check with your facility first to see
if they will accept the training. They may even reimburse for it.

Foster Parent Community
A friend showed me a website for fosterparents that
has a complete section of online training courses. Although they are
written for fosterparents the vast majority of the information they provide is
also relevant to Residential childcare workers. This site provides over 90
hours of online training in various topics to include: ADHD, Oppositional
Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Conduct Disorder (CD) in Children and Adolescents,
Ways To Express Anger Constructively, Parenting Teen-Agers, etc. There is a small
fee for these courses and many facilities may reimburse you for the cost as well as
give you credit for the training. It wouldn't hurt to ask your administrator.
